Project Overview

JSL Marketing & Web Design partnered with The Clayground, a pottery studio in Grand Rapids, to create a visually appealing and user-friendly website that effectively showcases their classes, memberships, and events. The project required a complete redesign, integrating booking functionality, social media, and clear pricing structures to enhance customer engagement and streamline the user experience. Stephanie Sloop, owner of The Clayground, wanted a website that not only reflected the studio’s creative and welcoming atmosphere but also made it easy for visitors to explore class options, view pricing, and book sessions.

The challenge was to strike a balance between aesthetic appeal and practical functionality, ensuring seamless navigation between the website and external booking platforms while maintaining a cohesive brand identity.

The JSL Approach

Discovery & Planning

The project began with a detailed kickoff meeting to align on design preferences, functionality, and overall goals. We reviewed initial homepage concepts, with Stephanie favoring a clean and engaging layout that highlighted key sections, such as “Your Pottery Journey Starts Here,” “What We Do,” and “Meet the Owner.” During the planning phase, we structured the site to include essential pages, such as One-Time Experiences, 6-Week Classes, Monthly Memberships, Private Events, and Specialty Workshops.

A significant adjustment was replacing an initially planned blog page with a “Current Classes” section, which provided direct access to booking via Square—a critical feature for user convenience.

 

Design & Development

We presented two homepage mockups, refining the chosen design based on Stephanie’s feedback. Adjustments were made to background colors, fonts, and spacing to ensure visual harmony. High-quality images supplied by the client were carefully placed to enhance the site’s appeal while maintaining fast load times.

The “Current Classes” page was developed with direct links to Square booking pages, simplifying the registration process. Social media integration, including Instagram and Facebook buttons, was added to encourage community engagement. Additionally, pricing details and 24/7 member access information were prominently displayed to ensure transparency and clarity.

 

Content & Functionality

Collaborating closely with Stephanie, we refined the website copy and finalized pricing details. To streamline inquiries and event requests, we embedded Google Forms into relevant pages. The site was built with mobile responsiveness as a priority, ensuring a seamless experience across all devices.

For reliable performance, we deployed the site on Flywheel hosting, a service renowned for its speed and security. File sharing was managed via WeTransfer, and project coordination was handled through Hive, ensuring efficient and organized communication.

 

Collaboration & Revisions

Throughout the process, Stephanie provided detailed feedback on button placements, layout adjustments, and additional content needs. Our developer, Clarissa Cruz, ensured smooth transitions between design and launch, addressing technical considerations and optimizing functionality.

Key features include a user-friendly booking system via Square, engaging visuals that reflect The Clayground’s brand, and seamless social media integration. The clear display of pricing and membership tiers eliminates confusion, while the responsive design ensures accessibility on any device.
