A New Chapter for Chicago Psychiatrists

To better serve its growing patient base and reflect its physical location, Midwest Psychiatrists embarked on a complete digital transformation.

The project aimed to merge two separate websites (Midwest and Chicago) into a single, modern WordPress platform. The core challenge was to rebrand the practice to appeal to a younger, urban demographic while maintaining its professional identity. The result, chicagopsychiatrists.com, was launched successfully, featuring a cohesive city-inspired brand identity, an interactive user experience, and a streamlined content strategy.

 

The Project Faced Several Interconnected Challenges

First, the practice operated with twodistinct online presences, diluting its brand authority, making consolidating multiple domain names into a single primary URL—chicagopsychiatrists.com—a top priority. Second, the client needed to shift their brand perception from a general “Midwest” practice to a distinctly “city” and modern practice to attract a younger demographic, while visually communicating that they are medical doctors and distinguishing themselves from other types of mental health providers.

Finally, the new site needed to host a significant amount of complex medical information without overwhelming users, ensuring the content was both readable and engaging.

Brand strategy centered on creating a visual identity that felt distinctly urban and modern while preserving the professional credibility of a psychiatrist-led practice.

Logo and Visual Concept

The new logo was designed to merge the “city” and “modern” requirements by cleverly blending elements of the Chicago cityscape with the comforting, established color palette of the original Midwest brand. This approach ensured existing patients would still recognize the practice while new, younger clients would be drawn to its updated aesthetic.

Typography and Color Palette

To reinforce the modern and architectural feel, we selected Futura PT, a geometric sans-serif font, as the primary typeface. While the client initially preferred the lighter blues from the legacy Chicago site, our team advised against it due to poor contrast. A richer, more confident blue was ultimately selected for its superior contrast and modern feel, and paired with a vibrant orange accent to draw attention to key calls to action.

Imagery Direction

For imagery, we presented two homepage concepts—one featuring professional photography of people and the other featuring custom illustrations. The final design utilized a hybrid approach, collaborating with a creative partner to produce custom imagery that maintained continuity with the old site’s illustrative roots while aligning with the new, sophisticated tone the client wanted to convey.

Bringing the Brand to Life Online

With the new brand identity established, the focus shifted to translating that vision into a functional, high-performance website on the WordPress platform.

 

Making Complex Information Easy to Digest

The primary design challenge was organizing extensive clinical information into a fluent and visually appealing user experience. To achieve this, we implemented interactive elements such as accordions and sliders to collapse large lists into digestible chunks, and flipping cards on service pages to allow users to quickly grasp key information without navigating away. Subtle hover effects and scrolling animations were added to guide the user’s journey and make scrolling through long pages more engaging.

 

Helping Patients Take the Next Step

To respect the doctors’ preference for direct, professional communication, the sticky header was updated with prominent blue buttons linking directly to the psychiatrists’ email addresses, rather than generic phone numbers. This ensured that potential patients could easily reach the doctors themselves, reinforcing the practice’s psychiatrist-first identity.

 

Keeping Search Engines Happy

Throughout the revision process, the team maintained a flexible but strategic approach to content changes. The client requested several key edits, including renaming “Areas of Treatment” to “What We Treat,” removing sections on “E-Prescribing” and “Opioid Abuse,” and replacing “Online Scheduling” buttons with “Contact Us” prompts. The SEO team confirmed that these changes—which favored more patient-centric language, focused on core services, and drove direct communication with psychiatrists—would be positive for performance.

 

Fine-Tuning Based on Feedback

Development proceeded with close client collaboration. Based on client feedback, we made the logo more prominent and ensured it functioned as a “Home” button, widened the “What We Treat” section to better showcase the practice’s full range of expertise, and successfully redirected all legacy domains to the new main URL on launch day.

Bringing It All Together

The new Chicago Psychiatrists website launched successfully. The project successfully unified the brand by consolidating multiple domain names into a single, authoritative site. It modernized the image with a city-inspired logo and a bold, accessible color palette that appeals to a younger demographic while exuding the professionalism of a psychiatrist-led practice. By transforming dense, text-heavy information into an interactive, easy-to-navigate platform, the new site enhances user engagement. Finally, it empowered the client by providing a flexible WordPress platform that allows the psychiatrists to manage content with confidence, knowing their SEO and branding are intact.

By merging strategic branding, thoughtful design, and collaborative development, we delivered a digital home that truly reflects Chicago Psychiatrists’ place in the city and their vision for the future.
