The Problem

When Christopher J. Sullivan, the owner and lead attorney of Sullivan Law, approached us, it was with an aim to distinguish themselves more effectively from Alamo TItle.
While Alamo TItle is the title company that they work most closely with, they felt that their identity was more separate from this entity and they needed help in establishing and differentiating themselves as a standalone law firm.

Writing the Content

Creating content for the legal industry can be tricky between finding the perfect voice, individuality, and legality.

Luckily, the JSL team was up to the challenge! After meeting with the client to discuss their online tone and voice, creating custom content-templates to help the client share their history, team, values, and benefits, and performing extensive research into their service areas, our team put the pen to the pad (or rather, fingers to the keyboard).

By staying in close communication with the client throughout the process, JSL was able to create content that fit their voice, spoke to their clients, and clearly portrayed their services and the benefits that working with Sullivan Law could provide. JSL offered multiple rounds of revision to ensure that the content perfectly met every need and that the client was as happy with the end result as our team was!

Creating the Brand

JSL Marketing always seeks to be as efficient as possible in all things.

And in the case of branding and identity, prior to the start of the project, we asked the Sullivan Law Team to send us three logo examples that they liked, either for stylistic preference, or as an indicator for stylistic trends within the industry. Right away, a pattern emerged. All caps, sans serif fonts with condensed forms, and icons consisting of medium-sized straight lines. The direction was clear. The only question was how we could maintain the integrity of staying within the assigned theme that was provided, while also designing something unique enough that would set them apart from all of their competitors.

Option One

The first option that we presented to the Sullivan Law team adhered closely to the idea of using lines to convey a concept. In this instance, minimalist lines were used to convey the image of an “S”. To pair with the icon, we selected an authoritative sans serif font called Aviano Sans.

Option Three

The Final Look

Option three was ultimately discarded, but after a series of tweaks and fine tuning, the final logo came from the combination of options one and two

The client liked the font chosen for option one, but preferred the icon in option two. The icon in option one was strong, but the client also felt that it was too familiar, and in favor of selecting something definitely unique, chose the icon from option two.

Along the designing and editing process, we also moved from a left-aligned composition to a centered composition. A left-aligned version is included, but only to be used in rare instances when the centered logo version is too tall to fit into a space.

Designing the Website

The Sullivan Law Offices website is a large one. Which meant that the JSL team needed to have a firm grasp on attention to detail and stay consistent with styling.
For this reason, we created a design with firm but flexible heading and content styles, and we set a precedent for every stylistic element that appears throughout the site. This gave us a framework to work with that would help us keep the site consistent without sacrificing creativity. There are common themes from page to page, but enough differences that keep the site interesting.
