Blending Design and Intention

The client was very attracted to using imagery that directly corresponded with the ingredients used for each flavors. With the guidance and consultation of JSL, the client was able to find, select, and contract a botanical illustrator to create custom illustrations for each kombucha flavor. JSL designed and set up the cans, almost to completion so that the illustrator could more clearly understand the composition and create their art to fit on the can accordingly. Unlike many JSL projects, which are largely web and digitally based, these designs were meant for print, which meant that additional steps were required before the files could be handed off to the client and their suppliers. The files had to go through a process call “prepress” in which each detail of the files are inspected and adjusted accordingly. To ensure everything was set up correctly, our team inspected overprint settings and collaborated directly with the client’s supplier to ensure that documents bleeds, margins, and guidelines were set ups properly.
